    Default Intercompany transfer

My husband has a temporary work permit in Nassau and I am thinking of joining him for an extended period of time. If I were to receive an intercompany transfer, still being paid at home through my bank account at home, does anyone know whether I need a work permit? I would be seeing clients in the Bahamas, but all my administrative work would be sent back to Canada and I would be paid back home.

If you were just doing work in the bahamas, and not making money from bahamian clients, you would NOT need a permit. If you are soliciting clients, and the clients are paying for services, (either to you or to your company), your company will need a license to do business in the bahamas.

Of course, if no funds are transfered between the bahamian banks and the US banks, noone will care.

Thanks Tamara - so, let me see if I have this straight - my company already has a licence to do business in the Bahamas and the contracts are existing contracts. I would simply be doing the direct client work, then completing the paperwork, which would then go back to Canada. I would be paid in Canada, my benefits would all be Canadian, etc. From what I am reading in your reply, this should be okay, since I am not DIRECTLY receiving payment from the Bahamian client. Yes?

Hmmm - I just read your last sentence - if no cash transfers between the Bahamian bank and a US bank then no one cares - interesting....I'm a psychotherapist - this could offer up other options....

    You shouldn't have a problem.

Opening a bahamas bank account, or trying to deposit into your Canadian bank in the bahamas is a nightmare.. so make sure you have direct deposit until you get this straighten out.
You can withdraw money from your account with ATM.. but you can't deposit, without special permission.

Thanks Tamara - you've been very helpful - where are you, anyways? You seem to be a wealth of information on this bulletin - I wonder if it might be helpful to meet!
