Default Mail service in the Bahamas

Just got back from the Bahamas, stayed at the Atlantis. This was proberbly the best vaction I have ever had. (been all over the world, nearly).
The Bahamas are incredable and the people, I have never met a more friendlier people, polite, well mannered and educated.

One strange fact, Mail is not deliverd to the house, Is this true? Would like more info on this... anyone

In most cases mail is delivered to a post office box, or can be picked up at the local post office (general Delivery). There is no mail delivery service like in the states. As a matter of fact, quite a few streets don't even have signs, and some older areas go by location (lot #) and not street number and addresses.

When you say, Post Office Box, obviously you have to pay a fee for the rental..am I right? Would you know how much it is? (POBox fee)
How does the Post Master know the mail is for you? i.e. I could be picking up your mail as well as mine..just because I happen to be going to the post office.... Are there local post offices all over the island (Nassau city, etc)
