Default Moving to the Bahamas, do I stand a chance?

    Hi Guys,

My situation is, im a young single male (21), with an online self employed business. I currently live in Toronto, Canada. I have been thinking about moving to the Bahamas, renting an apartment and working out of my apartment.

The reasons I am attracted to the Bahamas (among other reasons) is from my understanding there are no taxes and the weather, country side, scenery, etc are beautiful. I am just begining my research and already i find that it isnt as easy as I was hoping to just move to the bahamas and live life happily. I noticed that you may be granted permanent annual residency if you are a independent economic resident. Does this mean aslong as you can support yourself?

I understand Bahamas has a lot of illegal immigrants from haiti, cuba, etc. But I'm hoping that the fact my country of citizenship is Canada I wont be looked at in this way. I can also support myself, my monthly income is approximately 10k USD a month, but it does vary because I work on comission, I have no criminal record and last but not least I plan to reside in the bahamas for 8-9 months a year while returning to canada for the other months.

With your expertise and knowledge, could you please point me to the appropriate places for more information, or offer some of your opinions on whether I am en elligible candidate to apply for a permanent status.

    Thank,
    Sean.

Yes. If your income is coming from outside the Bahamas it should not be too difficult.

How are your plans shaping up? I'm very curious as I'm in a similar boat: I live in Toronto currently (dual Canadian and U.S. citizen) with an on-line business of my own and another start-up on-line business that I am a partner in. I'm planning on moving to the Bahamas, renting an apartment and working out of my apartment.

While I'm twice your age, I don't think the Bahamian government will hold that against me

I returned three days ago from a one-week fact-finding trip: scouting for apartments, data centres for co-location service, banking options. Lots of logistical issues I'm still ironing out. I'm supposed to have the new business up and running in just seven weeks, and I'm concerned I how quickly I can get residency, etc.

    Hope to hear from you,

    Jeff Hill

    Default Moving to the Bahamas

Hi - My family and I are arriving in Nassau at the end of the year to investigate our chances of obtaining residency. We have an income from our properties in London and would really appreciate any information that you have gained from your experiences thus far. Thanks a million - Liza.
