Advise on First Trip to Bahamas

I am taking my wife on a surprise trip to the Bahamas for her fortieth
birthday. She likes to relax by the beach and do little or nothing.
I might want to go fishing for a few hours while she hangs out. I
will also want to "drag her" out sailing or to a casino one night. We
will be there only five nights (kids with Grandma) and I would like
your advice on a good destination. We like clean, quite places close
to activities if we decide to do something. I was thinking about Club
Med, but I don't know if it is too commercial or busy. I also
wouldn't mind a cottege, but no cooking! Thanks for your advice.

You should deciede which type of vacation you want. Either brass and glass activities and hassels, or beaches, sun, water, fish, and incredible beauty, with no crowds or much of anything else. If you want the former, stay in Nassau, or one of the other northern islands. If you want miles of the most beautiful coastlines anywhere, with no people around, go to Long Island. We have stayed at a place called Chez Pierre three or four times and are going back down this spring. My wife likes to lay or sit on the beach all day, except when she goes bobbing in the water. I always get tired of it and rent a car and explore the island. Bone fishermen rave about the fishing, and Pierre cooks their catches, but I've never taken time to try it. Its beautiful with not much but beach water sun and fish. but there are no gambling casinos, etc. but there is a diving shop fifteen or so miles from Pierre's.
