Club Med Paradise Island has been purchased recently by Sol Kerzner for Atlantis. The property is to be turned into barracks for workers as they develop the next phase of Atlantis. This should take place by the end of the summer.
A new contract with the staff will allow them to transition into the Atlantis staff. So most are quite content, and work very hard to please.

As for the property, it's getting a bit "used". But the grounds, beach and food are still irresistable. It's in a terrific location, lots to do both on and off the property. The Beach is the best in the Nassau/PI area. Just stunning.
So, depending on when you plan to go. I'd say, go and enjoy while you still can.

I am considering this location for a honeymoon gift to my daughter and future son-in-law for the dates of April 27 - May 2, 2004.

Is the purchase of the property by Atlantis likely to be causing any undesirable effects by that time?

I'm told the transition to Atlantis will take place in August.
You should have no problem in the Spring.
Just to be on the safe side, I'd contact them directly and see what they say.
