Both Islands are gorgeous. Very laid back and not touristy at all.
Cat Island may be a bit more laid back and lazy than Long Island.
As for mosquitoes, Depending on the season, they are everywhere in the am and and at dusk. Bring along a DEET product for skin protection.

As I said, both Islands are spectacular.

    Default Out islands

We studied most of the out islands and have chosen Long Island, where we bought a lot and are building a house. Its large enough to be interesting and just enough developement for convience, i.e. grocerie stores and lumber yards, but not much more. Very nice places to stay are Cape Santa Marie or Stella Morris. However, our favorite place, which is island living right on/over the beach is www.chezpierrebahamas.com . We have stayed there several times and will be going back down next month. Plan on renting a car, as the most beautiful ocean beaches on earth, are off by themselves down little back country roads. Pierre has a nice empty beach on the lee side of the island, which means there is no surf, which my wife likes, but I get bored with. Go for it, you will be glad you did.

We have been to both Long Island and Cat Island several times over the past four years. We love both islands but favor Cat as it is more off the beaten path and we have friends there now. I recommend Fernandez Bay Resort for a firt stay. It is very casual, friendly and a fantastic setting. 8)

Hi, we just got back from Long Island, and sure wish we had stayed longer. We bought our lot from Sunshine-real-estate. They are located in the Village of Salt Pond, which is about in the middle of the island. The mail boat also comes in there. I highly recommend them. They are honest, and will continue to help you long after you have bought a place, and not forget you after they make the sale. They have been very helpful to us, and have a internet site that is the same or very close to the above name. Their net site is worth visiting, if only to take a tour of the island. Long Island has the most beautiful beaches this side of II Corps, South Vietnam.

Default Long Island and Cat Island

    Hi all,

I could not pick between the two so my husband and I have decided to Island hop and see Long Island as well as Cat Island.

These were my two favorite Islands after all the research I did.

We were originally going to Exuma to stay at The 4 Seasons. After a lot of research (trip advisor is my favorite) we decided that we would much rather go to Cat Island. We knew all along that we were going to go to Long Island, everything we read about long island seems perfect for us.
We will be staying at the Fernandez Bay in Cat Island and at the Cape Santa Maria in Long Island.

From what I have read Mosquitos are a problem throughout the out islands. My husbad and I were in Tahiti last year and Mosquitos are a huge problem out thre also but they mainly come out only at night (unless you are in the forest areas)but you are fine if you wear deet spray or lotion.
Im assuming Cat Island and Long Island are the same.

Does any one know if there are places to eat in long island or cat island. The hotels tell me no and that the only food around the area is whats at the hotels. is this true?
