public trans or rental car?

This will be our first trip to Bahamas and we will arrive on Discovery Cruises. Are rental cars available at the port? Do I even need a car? I'll be with my husband, 7 year old, and 50 year old mom. Any suggestions will be welcome.

Hi,First trip I would take a taxi,do you know the name of your resort?Cab rates are high,But they do have a taxi or Jittney a mini van that runs from FreePort To Port Lucaya for a $1.50 each way,but do tip the driver and you will get info on things to see and do! Left hand driving is not hard but the Go Arounds-a english style intersection can get some geting use too!
also lots of places will pick you up for free with the tour or thing you do!
