    Default Laws in the Bahamas

I'm wondering what the marijuana laws are in the Bahamas. Please don't guess, it wouldn't be very funny once I got there.

guess I'm guessing about the laws, but last time I was there, the hotel staff was asking me to buy just baout everything under the sun. Just reply to any one of the dozens of panhandlers in the metro areas "dimebag?" and they'll smile and get you one.

    Default It's illegal..

Marijuana as well as other drugs are highly illegal in the bahamas, and you WILL end up in jail should you come across an undercover cop.
Jail in the bahamas is not quite the experience as you might have in the states, and there is no bail.

That being said, it's pretty easy to get, however, you must smoke it in private. Not on the open beach or in public spaces.

Tamara, Drug dealers are plaguing Nassaus downtown area - they are also in Freeport.

 Drugs ranging from marihuana to cocaine are offered up and down Bay Street and along Prince George Wharf in Nassau when cruise ships are in town. Drug dealers specially show their faces at the same time when the ships come in. When the passengers start offloading they make their appearance at the port of entry, along the sidestreets, in front of the stores - sometimes they even come inside the shops to harass the visitors to buy drugs.

 Bay Street shop owners are concerned about the negative impact this situation has on the tourism in the Bahamas. Tourists report that some dealers approach even tourist who have children with them. The question is what the government is doing? Either the Bahamas want the tourists to come or they do not want the tourists to come.

 Freeport: The hotel offered a shuttle to Xanadu beach, which was awful. It was dirty and we were approached to purchase drugs by one of the locals. All in all, members of our party were approached for this purpose 6 times in five days. Several of these happened right in the resort parking lot........

alejandra. The legal age for drinking and gambling is 18. Drinking in not well enforce, gambling is. PUBLIC Drunkeness is not tolerated. And Bahamian jails are NOT like in the states.

As for messing with young girls. The age of consent I believe is 17.
I'm assuming your not talking about "hanging out", but having sex.
Statutory rape is still a crime in the bahamas.

Keep in mind that the bahamas is a CHRISTIAN community. This is not hedomism.

The laws are the same for everyone. Regardless of where they are from.

    Dear Harald,

I don't disbelieve that at times tourists are approached to buy
drugs. But those few harassers on the beach are the least of the
authories' worries. They fight to bring down drug cartels. That
is what their goal is. To end entire operations, which will affect
all of these petty drug dealers.

Drug dealers do plague our streets. So do drug buyers,
apparently. Quite a number of tourists are looking for drugs.
The person who initiated this entire dialogue is an excellent
    example:-

But like Tamara told you, drugs is ILLEGAL. The penalties
    are very, very stiff.

As far as you suggestion for an isolated island, I don't think
so. The laws of The Bahamas are for all of the islands of
The Bahamas. And though we are striving people, we don't
want to sell our souls for money. Like Tamara said, this is
not Hedonism. We want to offer everything that is legal and
upstanding in our nation, not illegal activity. We want to attract
decency and offer 'vacation' bliss, not disorder.

That is such the truth. I was in Nassau for Christmas, uhm....a year or two ago. I was 15 at the time, and was approached approximately 7 times to buy marijuana, a few of them even offering the chance to smoke with them. Just shake your head, and you'll be fine.
